Firewood Permits Available For Purchase

Sequoia National Forest Personal Use Firewood Permits Available For Purchase

PORTERVILLE, Calif.— Personal use firewood cutting permits for the Sequoia National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument will be available for purchase at Ranger Stations in Dunlap, Springville and Kernville starting April 1. Customers can purchase an 8-month firewood permit which can be used between April 1 and Nov. 30.

According to Forest Officials, the permit may only be used on dead firewood material (without green leaves or needles) within the Sequoia National Forest. Woodcutting activities will to be based on road, weather and fire danger conditions. Please check with your local Ranger Station for current conditions and restrictions.

Firewood is $10 per cord with a minimum purchase of two cords per person ($20), maximum purchase of 10 cords per household. At the time of purchase, a forest map, area based woodcutting instructions and forest policies will be provided and discussed. The cost of the permit is not refundable.

Forest Service law enforcement and fire officials will be monitoring how much wood is removed from the forest. Keep your permit on the dashboard of your vehicle where it is visible through the windshield. Fill out the bottom portion of the permit and attach a load ticket at the cutting site before you haul each load.

Forest visitors are encouraged to “Know Before You Go,” by calling the Forest Supervisor’s Office or local ranger station for forest conditions, regulations, and bans.
